1989년 결성된 미국 의 브루탈 데스 메탈밴드.

1 개요

크립탑시와 함께 브루탈데스 중 가장 인정받는 밴드.이몰레이션,인칸테이션과 함께 뉴욕 출신으로 이들은 뉴욕 3데스라 불리는데, 서포케이션은 그중에서도 탑이라 할 수 있다. 보컬은 쭉 프랭크 물렌이였고, 흑인이 멤버인 드문 밴드이기도 하다. 프랭크 뮬렌의 목소리는 꽤 독특한데, 평론가의 표현을 옮긴다면 '하수구에 물이 빠지는 소리'라고.(...) 그러나 그런 목소리도 1집까지이고 지금은 꽤나 평범한 보컬이 됬다.

데스메탈에 남겨온 발자취와 기여가 너무나 많고 다양한 밴드라 장르 분류를 정확히 하는게 애매할 정도의 밴드다. 지금까지 남긴 업적만 해도 "브루탈데스의 창시자", "테크니컬데스의 대표", 심지어는 "데스코어의 선구자"로까지 여겨진다. 그래서 브루탈데스의 창시자라는 나름 엄청난 업적을 이뤘음에도 불구하고 현재는 화려하면서도 때려부수는 이미지의 테크니컬 데스메탈의 대표주자로써의 이미지가 더 강하다.

예산문제(또는 레이블의 개입으로) 1집을 함께 작업했던 프로듀서 스캇 번즈와 작업을 하지 못하게 되고, 데스 메탈에 미숙한 프로듀서, 엔지니어와 녹음을 하게 되어 음질과 믹싱이 아쉬운 음반. 그러나 작곡은 매우 훌륭하다.

기존 드러머였던 Mike Smith가 밴드를 탈퇴하고 그 자리를 Doug Bohn이 채우게 된다. 그리고 스캇 번즈와 다시 작업을 하게 된다.
이 앨범을 발표한 이후 보컬 프랭크가 대머리가 됬다.1998년 서포케이션은 해체하게 된다. 그리고 2002년에 재결성을 하게 된다.
