== 개요 ==
일본 [[홋카이도]] [[오타루]]시에 위치한 [[JR 홋카이도]] [[하코다테 본선]]의 역이다. 업무위탁역으로 홋카이도 JR 서비스넷에서 역무를 맡고 있다.

역 주변은 시가지 및 주택가로 번영했던 무역항의 흔적을 많이 찾아볼 수 있다. 금융기관, 오래된 제과점 등이 많은 편이다.

오타루 시내 관광시 오타루역보다는 이 역에서 내려서 도보로 접근 하는 쪽이 편할 수 있다. 록카테이나 Le Tao 본점 등이 위치한 메르헨 거리를 가려면 이 역에서 내리는 게 더 가깝다.

[[홋카이도 신칸센]] [[신오타루역]]은 남서쪽으로 약 3km 떨어진 곳에 건설될 예정이다.
