Greensleeves.
Damm sleeves..

16세기 경에 작곡된 영국의 전통민요. "푸른 옷소매"라고 번역하기도 하지만 영어권에서는 가사에 나오는 여자 이름으로 고유명사이니 한국에서도 그린슬리브즈로 부르는게 옳다. 헨리 8세가 애인인 앤 불린을 위해 만들었다는 전설이 있지만 그 시대 후인 엘리자베스 1세 시대 곡이니 시기가 맞지 않다. 같은 곡조에 가사만 바꾼 What Child Is This 라는 크리스마스 캐롤로도 불린다.

윌리엄 셰익스피어의 '윈저의 즐거운 아낙네들'(The Merry Wives of Windsor)(1597경)에도 이 곡이 언급되어 있는 것으로 보아, 그 전부터 구전되어 오던 곡임에 틀림없다고 한다. 악보로 채록된 것으로 가장 오래된 것은 William Ballet's lute book(1580경)이라고.

워낙 오래되고 애잔한 곡조가 마음을 울리는 유명한 곡조라 여러 가수들이나 여러 악기로나 또 여러 변주곡이 많다. 드라마나 각종 배경음악으로 많이 쓰인다. 한국에는 60년대 Kings Singers라는 아카펠라 그룹이 부른게 유명하다. 최근 마음이 외치고 싶어해라는 일본 애니메이션 영화의 OST로 私の 声(나의 목소리) 라는 곡으로 불려졌다. 또한 카지우라 유키가 이 곡을 편곡한 Dectretum(판결)은 마법소녀 마도카☆마기카에서 미키 사야카의 테마로 사용되기도 했다.

제목이 비슷한 "Green Leaves of Summer" 라는 곡과 혼동하지 말 것. 이건 Brothers Four 라는 미국 50-60년대 4인조 남성그룹의 곡이다. 분위기도 약간 비슷하기도 하고 Brothers Four 도 Greensleeves 와 What Child Is This 곡을 부르기도 했다.

Alas my loue, ye do me wrong,
