엘튼 존의 6집 Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Piano Player의 8번 트랙.

2 구성

G로 구성되어 푸근하고 잔잔한 컨트리 풍의 어쿠스틱 발라드이다. 데이비 존스턴의 어쿠스틱 기타가 주를 이루고 있어서 컨트리의 분위기가 물씬 나고, 엘튼 존은 피아노 대신에 하모니움(발 풍금)을 연주했다. 어찌 보면 어쿠스틱 기타가 주를 이루는 엘튼 존의 첫 어쿠스틱 넘버로 볼 수 있고, 수록곡 중에서 유일하게 컨트리의 요소를 크게 차용된 곡이기도 하다. 코러스의 "Yippie-Ki-Yay"거리면서 부르는 부분은 카우보이들의 기쁨과 즐거움을 나타내는 환호성이다. 다르게 바꿔서 "yippee-i-o-ki-ay" 또는 "Yippie-yi-yo-kayah"라고 말하기도 한다.

단순히 제목만 보면 텍사스에 관한 찬가로 볼 수 있지만, 가사는 상당히 대조적이면서 비꼬는 내용을 담았다.

1973년 투어에서도 부르지 않았고, 1998년 8월 7일 미국 텍사스 주의 Frank Erwin 센터에서 진행된 공연에서만 불렀다. 텍사스 공연 이후 한두번 정도 더 부른걸로 보이지만, 정확한 정보는 없다. 그저 텍사스에 대한 주제이기 때문에 텍사스에서 특별히 부른 것이라는 추측도 있다. 당시 공연에선 2키 내린 F로 불렀고, 원곡과 마찬가지로 어쿠스틱 기타를 연주하면서 진행했지만, 엘튼 존이 피아노를 연주하면서 부르기도 했다.

1998년 8월 7일 텍사스
