엘튼 존의 31집 The Diving Board의 8번 트랙.

2 구성

Bb로 구성되어 간결하고 섬세한 선율로 진행하는 미드 템포 발라드. 1절까진 보컬과 피아노로만 진행하지만, 코러스부터 베이스가 나오기 시작하고, 2절부턴 드럼과 백보컬도 같이 동반한다. 2절과 코러스 이후 인트로를 다시 반복하는데 여기서 Voyeur를 길게 늘리면서 외친다. 그러고나서 Dm와 Am로 구성된 브릿지로 넘어가다가 다시 원래대로 돌아가고, Voyeur를 다시 한번 길게 외치고 Bb9으로 막을 내린다. 마지막에 깔끔한 마무리로 끝나는 구성은 1979년작 The Retreat와 꽤 유사하다. 사실 전반적인 선율과 특유의 간결한 분위기는 1975년작 "Writing"을 크게 연상시킨다는 평도 있다.

관음증에 대해 묘사한 내용을 담았고, 전반적으로 상당히 심오하고 추상적인 표현들이 주를 이루고 있다.

3 여담

발매 이전인 2013년 1월 8일 버니 토핀의 웹사이트에서 앨범의 제목을 Voyeur로 바꾸기로 결정했다가 취소했다. 2013년 9월 프로듀서 T-본 버넷과의 인터뷰에서 버니 토핀은 앨범에서 전반적으로 흐르고 있는 분위기는 해당 곡보다 The Diving Board로 해야 더욱 어울리다고 생각해 The Diving Board로 제목을 다시 정했다고 설명했다.

2013년 9월에 영국에서 싱글로 발매되었지만, 차트 진입에 실패했다.

라이브에선 딱 4번 불렀다. 2013년 11월 8일 미국 코네티컷 공연에서 처음 불렀으며, 11월 9일 버지니아 주 프로비던스, 11월 12일 보스턴 공연에서만 불렀다. 라이브에선 원곡처럼 1절~코러스까진 피아노 솔로였다가 2절부턴 밴드와 진행하는 구성이다.

무대에서 부른 건 3번이며, 다른 하나는 2013년 11월 2일 그레이엄 노튼 쇼에서 부른 것이다.

2013년 11월 2일 그레이엄 노튼 쇼, 스튜디오에선 피아노 솔로로 불렀는데, 방송에선 MR도 같이 나오는 식으로 처리되었다.
