Yola language 또는 Forth and Bargy dialect
1 개요
아일랜드 카운티 웩스퍼드(County Wexford)의 Forth와 Bargy 지방에서 쓰였던 영어의 방언, 또는 영어에서 파생된 개별 언어. 현재는 소멸되었다. 가장 비슷한 언어/방언으로는 아일랜드의 더블린 지방의 Fingal에서 쓰였던 핑갈어(Fingallian)가 있었다.
1169세기 경 잉글랜드를 지배하던 노르만족이 아일랜드를 침공하면서 중세 영어가 아일랜드 일부 지역에 퍼지기 시작한다. 이후 잉글랜드의 영어는 대모음추이 등으로 크게 변화하게 되는데, 아일랜드에 퍼진 영어들은 별로 변하지 않는 상황이 벌어진다. 이런 영어 방언(또는 언어)들이 비교적 늦게까지 살아남았던 케이스가 욜라어와 핑갈어이다. 둘 다 19세기 중반에 소멸되었다.
Yola는 영어 old를 뜻하는 욜라어 단어이다.
2 특징
대모음 추이가 나타나지 않고, 독일어처럼 마찰음 상당수가 유성음으로 바뀐다. 이것들은 전부 중세 영어의 특징을 반영하고 있다.
